This year, Winchester High School hosted the first annual student writing contest and published the winning pieces in our new literary publication, The Paw Print. We had over two dozen students submit their work to three categories: poems, stories, and cover art. The contest was organized by Mrs. Heather Crivilare and The Paw Print was edited by Mr. Andrew Crivilare, both of the WHS English department.
We would like to thank all students who contributed, and especially thank our community partner Farmers State Bank for sponsoring cash prizes for the winners in each category.
Third place in poetry went to senior Lexi Greiner, for her poem “Time Flies By”
Second place in poetry went to freshman Bella Jones for her poem “Brand New Day.”
First place went to senior Isabel Kärkkäinen for her poem “Truth”
Third place in prose went to senior Violet Beck for her story “The Book of Dreams”
Second place in prose went to senior Sofie Grubb for her story “Bend Don’t Break”
And first place in prose went to senior Hallee Lawson for her story “The Impact of a Gift”
And finally, the winning design for the cover of our publication was created by Lexi Greiner.
You can read all of the winning submissions in the digital edition of The Paw Print.
Mr. Bryan Hubbert from Farmers State Bank - A Tradition of Trust in Winchester came on Thursday (4/2/26) to present the winners their checks. (Isabel K was not present.)
