May Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

May 1, 2019

Congratulations to our newly elected school board members:  Ron Coultas (2nd term), Bill Jacquot, and Shanna Eddinger. Our appreciation goes out to Joe Little and Steve Weder who completed their term in office and chose not to rerun.  Officer were approved for a one year term at the April Board Meeting: Steve Moore - president, Trista Freeman - vice president, and Phyllis McGuire - secretary.

The Illinois General Assembly still has not passed legislation on guidelines for the 2019-20 school calendar.  A proposed Winchester CUSD 1 calendar is ready for approval but no action can be taken until the state takes care of business.

WGS and WHS were both recently approved to attend Strategic Planning Workshops through a Tracy Foundation Grant.  The workshops will be in Quincy on four Fridays in April/May. Those attending include: Denny Vortman, Dakota Beavers, Andy Stumpf, Kalli Fuhler, Mashell Turnbull, and Trista Freeman (representing the BOE).

The 2019 Small, Rural School Achievement (SRSA) Grant has been completed.  This federal grant is also referred to as REAP - Rural Education Achievement Program.  We have received around $25,000 from this grant each of the last three years and will find out this summer the exact amount for 2019.  This program is linked to our WGS Title I status and must be used in the grade school. We use these funds for technology purchases and improvements.

The following motions were approved at the April 9th School Board Meeting:
