February Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

February 1, 2017

Our second quarter Scott County School Facility Sales Tax generated $29,548.69.  We received $1,1184.12 from Morgan County.

We received a 3.10 out of 4.00 on our 2017 ISBE Financial Profile Designation which is “Financial Review” status.  Financial Review is the second highest of the four designations.

Our IASA Two Rivers Division hosted our 8th Annual Legislative Roundtable in Pittsfield on January 5th.  Reps. Davidsmeyer & Freese along with Sen. McCann were present.  Much discussion was held on school funding reform as well as pension reform.  There did not seem to be much confidence that the state budget will be solved anytime soon.

A new Illinois General Assembly has been seated but there is no state budget yet.  Two new laws impacting schools were passed and signed by the governor before the last session ended.  SB 550 requires the testing of water sources in schools for lead.  SB 2912 reduces the license fee for substitute teachers and streamlines the process for out-of-state educators to get an Illinois Teacher’s License.

6 Promethium Panels were installed on January 19th.  4 of the 6 were purchased with grant funds.  They are located in the following teacher’s rooms:  J. Fearneyhough, K. Rueter, B. Weder, J. Kilver, J. Duncan, and on a mobile cart at WHS.

The 5Essentials School Survey closed on January 30th.  Participation rates were as follows:  students - 89%, teachers - 76%, and parents - 15%.  Results will be available on the school report card next fall.

There are some school publications that show us in school on March 16th & 17th.  There is actually no school on these dates as this will be a mini spring break.  March 13th-15th are emergency make-up days.  So if any of these days are not used our mini spring break becomes longer!

The following motions were approved at the January 17th School Board Meeting:

  1. Facility Use - WGS Gym for 6th Grade volleyball practice

  2. Kessia Melanson as 2nd Semester WGS 1-on-1 aide
