January Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

January 2, 2017

A Health, Life, & Safety Amendment for several WGS renovation projects was approved at the December 13th Winchester School Board Meeting and has been sent to ISBE for final approval.  This amendment includes replacing of our current HVAC system and gym floor, asbestos abatement and new floor tiling, and replacing of bathroom fixtures as well as several other possible projects.  We hope to hear from ISBE by the end of January.

The Winchester School Board also approved a waiver to allow the children of non-resident full-time employees to attend Winchester Schools tuition-free.  This waiver request has to be approved by the Illinois General Assembly this spring and (if approved) will go into effect for a 5-year period starting with the 2017-18 school year.

90 Lenovo Touchscreen Chromebooks arrived in mid-December and have been placed in 3 new mobile carts for classroom use.  We also ordered several of these Chromebooks for employee use and for them to checkout when attending workshops.

6 more Promethium Panels also arrived in December.  Grant funds will pay for close to 5 of the panels with district technology funds covering the rest.  Installation will occur this month.

30 new wireless access points were installed over Christmas Break.  This will hopefully address some “dead spots” throughout the district and prepare us well for additional wireless technology.

The 5Essentials School Survey will be available until January 30th.  Parents can go to the Quicklinks on the right side of our website and find the link to the survey.

We will have 6 candidates for the 4 board positions in the April 4th election.  They are:  Jennifer Buhlig, Jody Clanton, Trista Freeman, Jane Ann Hatcher, Phyllis McGuire, and Steve Moore.

Our snow day December 19th will be made up on Tuesday, April 18th.

The following motions were approved at the December 13th School Board Meeting:

  1. The 2017 Tax Levy
