September Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

September 1, 2016.

Our enrollment numbers for the new school year show 55 students in Pre K, 395 students in K-8, and 193 students in 9-12.  Our total enrollment is 643 which is 13 less than last year.

Grace Pinkerton began as our school social worker this week.  Bluffs will be paying 40% of her total salary and Grace will be there on Mondays & Wednesdays and at Winchester the other days.  Lea Ann Brannan has agreed to be our part-time librarian and started August 22nd.

Our district welcomed 12 new employees this year besides Grace and Lea Ann.

Our first GSA payment was $105,170.00 which is $5,341.00 more than each of our FY16 payments.  So that comes out to $117,502.00 more in GSA for this year.  We are also receiving $27,056.00 more in Title I funds this year.  This is carry over from FY16.  Our new total is $121,643.00.

Avery and Katie Maul won their annexation/detachment hearing.  The Regional Board of School Trustees voted 4-1 in their favor.

We ordered 6 promethium boards (3 for each building).  The total bill is $23,994.00 which will come out of the Million Trust Account.

Scott County has a Truancy Officer!  Judi Sutton has worked in Pike County for over 10 years and will also serve our county starting this year.  She plans to stop at both offices twice a month or as needed.

I have agreed to have Curtis Kilver (WHS Senior) work maintenance for us through the WHS Work Co-Op Program.

The new football scoreboard, play clocks, and advertisements look great!  Denny Vortman, Alex Ebbing, and the assistant football coaches have put in many long days getting things in place.

We are looking to add a district Facebook Webpage.  This will allow us to communicate district information on Facebook that will redirect parents to our district website for details.
