March Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

February 28, 2015

PARCC testing will start the first week of March at WGS and last most of the month.  PARCC testing schedules as well as other PARCC information are on the front page of the district web site.  WHS juniors will also be taking the ACT & ACT Work Keys on March 3rd & 4th.

The 5Essentials Survey for students in grades 6-12, teachers, and parents will close on March 13th.  80% of our students and 75% of our teachers have completed the surveys which are both way above the 50% participation needed to receive the data on our school report card.  Parents are at 19% participation with 20% needed to receive the data on our report card.  I am confident we can get 1% by March 13th.

We have received certification that the County Sales Tax question will appear on the April 7th election ballot.

Due to a lack of drivers, we have picked-up/dropped-off students on the Glasgow Route (Bus #2) in Suburbans since February 17th.  Two regular route drivers are both on medical leave and a sub driver has a family emergency.  We may have to combine routes which could mean different pick-up times for some students.

I attended the IASA Leadership Summit February 17th & 18th in Springfield.  Vision 20/20 was the focus of our meetings.  There will be no less than 5 or 6 bills introduced in the General Assembly this year that have been initiated through Vision 20/20.  Close to 350 school boards in Illinois have adopted resolutions in support of Vision 20/20.

I attended the Grain Belt Express Open House on February 5th.  It looks like the transmission lines through southern Scott County is now the preferred route with only  slight changes from the December map.

The Morgan-Scott CEO Program will be expanding to include all Morgan County high schools next year.

The following motions were approved at the February 10th School Board Meeting:

  1. Ameren Easement of property along Cross Street

  2. Use of Facilities by Emily’s Dance on Feb. 19th

  3. Brad Wade as WCC Softball volunteer

  4. WGS Cheer Sponsor resignation letter from Heather Lashmett

  5. Jessica Svoboda as WHS Science Teacher for 2015-16
