September Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

August 29, 2014

We have made it through the first two weeks of school while battling several changes as well as the heat.  We have had two recent resignations that have presented a challenge.  A special education teaching position has been filled but we are still looking for a regular bus route driver.

Wednesday was our sixth day of school and that date is used for calculating student enrollment for the year.  WGS enrollment is at 418 which is 5 more than last year.  WHS is at 192 which is 5 less than last year.  Thus, our K-12 enrollment of 610 is the same as last year.

Our district website has a new design that will provide us with additional features.  As of this writing, there are still some changes to be made.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has a Back-to-School Letter that is on the front page of the district website.  In the letter there is information about a Back-to-School webinar for parents that ISBE is hosting on September 9th.

Our DCEO lighting project took a break with the start of school.  All the primary classrooms and bathrooms were finished before school started.  Ingram Electric will start back up soon to complete more of the project.  Our IEMA school safety grant for a security upgrade at the WGS main entrance has not been completed as some materials are still not available.  Most all other summer projects have been completed.

We start our regular schedule on September 2nd.  A reminder that students will be dismissed at 2:15 each Wednesday except for 5 Wednesdays when dismissal will be at noon.  Please consult the yearly calendar for more information.

The following motions were approved at the August 12th School Board Meeting:
