Dr. Coonrod's Environmental / Earth Science class visits Doe Run Education Works

Student's in Dr. Coonrod's Environmental/Earth Science class traveled to Doe Run Education Works (DREW) in northern Greene County on October 16th. This outdoor education facility, located on the property of Drew and Laura Dukett, focuses on enhancing knowledge and understanding of outdoor environments and facilitating instruction of conservation practices that will encourage the responsible use of all natural resources. Students were greeted by Drew and Laura upon their arrival, who gave them a short orientation about the property. Students then were divided into small groups who went on a scavenger hunt for along the hiking trails. This hunt included identifying processes and concepts that they have been learning about in class, like evidence of secondary succession, as well as specific items such as ferns, bugs, seeds, mushrooms, certain tree types, wildflowers, animal tracks, and even animal scat.
