I graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary and special education. I also took graduate courses at the National College of Education to obtain more certification in special education.
I live in Jacksonville with my husband, Jim, a native of Winchester. My daughter, Kate, graduated from EIU and is a graphic designer and my son, Zac, graduated from NIU and is in sales. They both live in the Chicago suburbs, where I'm originally from. I started my teaching career at Winchester Grade School teaching primary special education. I have been here ever since! I taught special education for 13 years until I started teaching 6th grade. Although I loved teaching 6th grade, after 9 years I decided I would like to teach at the primary end again. This is my twelve and last year teaching first grade, as I am retiring in 2018. I love teaching first grade and seeing how much my students change in a year. They start as emerging readers and learn so much in the short 9 months that I have them. First graders are such eager learners and have so much enthusiasm!
