We will make-up four of our five emergency days in the month of March.  We will now have school on March 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st. March 21st will now be a 2:15pm dismissal for the start of our short four-day spring break.  There is no school on Friday, March 22nd and Monday, March 25th. The fifth emergency day will be made-up on April 18th.

WGS has created a Building Leadership Team (BLT) to work on their school improvement plan which is required with their designation.  A work plan was developed this week. You will find out much more from the BLT in the near future.

Dr. Carmen Ayala has been selected as our new State Superintendent of Schools.  Dr. Ayala began her career as a teacher in Chicago and most recently served as superintendent in Berwyn, a suburb west of Chicago.

Dakota Beavers, Grant DeWitt, Adam Brockhouse, Tamaque Ator, Angie Brown, and Megan Hurrelbrink have been approved for the Tracy Family Foundation School Leadership Initiative Cohort 5.  Cohort 5 starts in the fall. Congratulations to all!

The Spire Gas Pipeline Project is underway.  This project will tap into the pipeline that was constructed across south Scott County several years ago and will send natural gas south to the St. Louis area.  Some of our bus routes may need to be altered during this time.

We did not receive the 2019 Property Tax Relief Grant applied for in December.  28 school districts received the $50 million. We were number 289 out of the 373 school districts that applied.

The following motions were approved at the February 12th School Board Meeting:

  1. Establishment of WHS activity account for Bass Fishing

  2. Use of gym for WBBA All-Star game March 16th

  3. Resignations of cheer coaches Candy Miller and Andrea McLaughlin

  4. Volunteers:  WCC Baseball - Justin Fuhler, WCC Bass Fishing - Scott McCleery, Thad Walker, Jim Young, Steve Hoots, Jed Arnold, and Richard Snodgrass

  5. Extension of principal contracts through 2024 (salary to be established each year)

  6. Request of Molly Traw to release her from her contact, on or before March 13th
