February Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

January 31, 2019

We have used all five of our emergency days for the 2018-19 school year.  January 30th and 31st are days number 6 and 7. We will have to apply for “Act of God” days with approval through our ROE and ISBE.  If approved, we will not have to make these days up.

Our interrupted day at WHS on January 9th when the boiler would not fire has been approved by the ROE and ISBE.  Since we started school and had over an hour of school that day does not count as an emergency day.

We have sent a thank you note to the City of Winchester for their help in filling potholes before the WIT.

The State of Illinois has released over $200 million to catch up on mandated categorical payments.  We have over $140,000 that has been disbursed to us waiting for the Comptroller to process.

Parents have been reminded of the drop-off procedures at WGS.  Some parents have caused safety concerns by not being compliant.

We have received an anonymous gift through Schwab Charitable for $2,000 for Junior High and High School STEM education programs.

The following motions were approved at the January 15th School Board Meeting:

  1. Revision to Policy 578 - Recruitment of Students

  2. Shanna Eddinger’s use of gym for 6th grade volleyball practices

  3. Angie Brown’s use of gym for PeeWee basketball

  4. Angie Brown’s use of gym for 8th grade open gym

  5. Post Prom use of gym/cafeteria April 27th - 28th
