March Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

March 2, 2018

PARCC testing for 3rd through 8th grades will start on Monday.

Our Spring Break will start after a 2:15pm dismissal on Monday, March 26th.  The start of the break could still change if any snow days are used this month.  School will resume on Tuesday, April 3rd.

Our two new AEDs have arrived and have been installed at both WGS & WHS.

The state owes us over $150,000 in categorical payments for FY18.  With the Evidence Based Funding (EBF) formula, we have been told that these new funds will be distributed in April.  I attended a workshop on Jan. 22nd on EBF and found the new formula complicated, but more fair.

66 chromebooks, 2 carts, and a cabinet are loaded and ready for use at WGS.  Title I (30 + cart) and REAP (36 + cart & cabinet) grant funds are paying for these.  WHS just had 60 chromebooks arrive with most of the invoice to be paid from the CTEI Vocational Grant and the remainder from the Million Trust.

“Thank You” notes on behalf of the district were sent out to:  Bluffs School District - for hosting WIT games, Chris Parker - for only charging us $45 for hauling the rock which was much-needed outside the kitchen, Patrick Brown - for donating computer cables from Illinois College.

Tracy Eisenhauer won my “Take the Afternoon Off” gift from our District Christmas Gift Exchange.  On Jan. 29th, I substituted for Tracy and “taught” physical education to JH classes, as well as, grades K-2.  It was a great experience, but tiring!

The following motions were approved at the February 13th School Board Meeting:

  1. Use of facilities - Post Prom on April 28th/29th

  2. Resignation from Karlee VanDeVelde as WC Cheer Coach

  3. Retirement letter from Mike Brockhouse effective Sept. 1st

  4. Employed 1-on-1 aides Diane Potter and Melissa Moore

  5. Employed special route driver Kim Gordley
