Dear Winchester players, parents and fans:
The athletic teams at Winchester have had numerous successes and disappointments throughout the 2016/2017 school year so far and will have many more. Often times success is measured by the number of wins and losses next to each team. However, we believe showing positive sportsmanship towards officials and opposing teams/fans is just as important. The words and actions from our coaches, players, and fans are a direct reflection on the Winchester School District. We want to continue working hard on and off the court. No person enjoys losing, but regardless of the outcome, we expect everyone to show positive character.
Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinal’s manager, says, “We may not win every game, but we will be the classiest coaches, players, and parents in every game we play. The “players” are going to play with a respect for their teammates, opposition, and the umpires no matter what.” Winchester student athletes and their parents have a reputation of showing great character and positive sportsmanship. Inappropriate language, constantly yelling and criticizing officials, and being disrespectful to opposing teams and fans are ways to ruin that reputation. Therefore, these actions will not be tolerated. If you choose to ignore this, consequences will follow.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at any time.
Yours in Education,
Andy Stumpf, Principal
