Winchester Grade School hosted an assembly this afternoon to culminate their Penny Wars Challenge for the mechanics of Marshall's Chevrolet who lost their tools from the fire on Jan. 3rd.  WGS collected over 172 lbs. of coins and a total of $1,227.03!  Paul & Jay Rueter, plus the mechanics from Marshall’s were on hand to receive the gift.  A big “thank you” to Mrs. Daniels for her work in organizing this contest!

Our September and October sales tax revenue were $10,200.00 and $9,900.00 for Scott County.

Sam & Sue Peak have made a $5,000.00 donation to the Scott County Sports and Agriculture Complex.

We were able to complete a 6-month lease at the same rate on Bus #7 that will allow us to keep it till summer.  It will be around $50,000.00 to buy Bus #7 this summer if we want to budget for it.  We planned to try and sell Bus #11 this spring.

I attended the 7th Annual IASA Two Rivers Division Legislative Forum in Pittsfield on Jan. 6th.  Reps. Davidsmeyer, Freese, & Hammond, as well as Sen. McCann attended along with 22 area school superintendents.

Under the ISBE FY17 Budget Proposal, we would receive $172,000.00 more GSA or about a 3.4% increase.  Districts will lower local wealth and higher low-income students were targeted for more assistance under this formula.

Bryan Barnett reports that he was able to trade the 12-passenger van for a GMC Yukon straight up.

Lisa Kimble has submitted her intent to retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year.   

The following motions were approved at the January 19th School Board Meeting:

  1. Adoption of revisions to Board Policy 304 - Promotional Policy (effective 2016-17 school year)

  2. Conducting of Architectural Facility Study of WGS

  3. Accepted the resignation of Thad Walker as WGS Principal effective June 30th

  4. Employed Tina Brown as Title I Reading Aide effective Jan. 25th

  5. Volunteers:  Tammy Vincent - WGS Cheer and Karla Cannon - Clerk for School Nurse

  6. Employed/Re-Employed Head Coaches:  Ryan Jefferson - WCC Girls Track, Alex Ebbing - WCC Football, T.J. Plogger - WCC Volleyball, and Dan Burk - WCC Golf

  7. Changed time of Feb. 9th regular board meeting to 5:30pm
