WLDS/WEAI - Chatter - Thursday, January 15th

WINCHESTER CHATTER - ISSUE #5  - Thursday, January 15, 2015 - DAY 6

West Central's Jeff Abell won his 37th career tournament game last night. That is good for a tie for fourth place on the wins list with Dick Hamann, who coached Carrollton from 1950-73. North Greene's Marty Rhoades is third with 38 wins. Jeff Krumwiede of Carrollton leads the way with 57 wins, and Bob Hembrough of Beardstown is second with 43.

Rushville-Industry became the second No. 15 ranked team to win a tournament game in the last four years. Western was No. 15 in 2012 and beat Greenfield-Northwestern in a consolation bracket game.

Camp Point Central is trying to reach the consolation championship for the first time since 2005.

Brown County is trying to reach the game for the first time since 2009.

Camp Point Central and Brown County last played here in the 2011 semifinals. CPC came away with a 63-39 win in that game. Camp Point went on to finish 2nd behind West Central in 2011.

West Central and Rushville-Industry, and PORTA/A-C Central and Payson have never met in the tournament.

West Central is trying to reach the consolation championship game for the second time in four years.

Rushville-Industry is trying to reach the game for the first time. Rushville played in the consolation championship three years in a row from 1992-94.

PORTA/A-C Central is trying to reach the championship game for the first time. PORTA played in the championship game in 2008. Payson, who is the defending champion, is trying to reach the championship game for the third straight year.

We have a new leader in the scoring honors list at the tournament. Joseph Myers knocked down 21 points last night, which now gives him 46 for the tournament. He takes over the top spot from Drew Burwinkel of Payson, who has 40. Here is your top ten scoring list for the 2015 Winchester Invitational Tournament.
