December Superintendent Newsletter

Winchester CUSD #1 Monthly Newsletter

November 26, 2014

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) School and Campus Safety Grant has been completed.  New reinforced doors with impact resistant locks have been installed at the WGS main entrance.  Shatter-resistant film has been installed as well as remote locking/access controls at both secretary desks.  Visitors will now be “buzzed in” when entering the grade school during the school day.

Our projected allocation for Title I in June was $84,817.00.  Our final allocation was $122,708.00.  We are paying part of two certified aide salaries with the increase as they work with Title I students in the library & computer lab.

The WHS Student Council is close to their funding goal for the LED marquee sign in front of WHS at Cross & Elm.  Weather permitting; the sign could be up in the next couple of months.

Reflectors have been removed from half of the outside rows of lights in the WGS gym to allow for more light coverage area.  It is better.

The following motions were approved at the November 11th School Board Meeting:

  1. Renewal of Bus Lease with Central States Bus Service

  2. Dram Club trip to Iowa in May 2015

  3. Resignation of Harlan Fricke as full-time bus driver at end of December 2014

  4. Leave of absence for remainder of school year for Blayre Petri

  5. Employed Ryan Jefferson as WGS Boys Track Coach
