ZAP Program

Zero’s Aren’t Permitted (ZAP)

In order to combat failure rates at WHS, a new program is going into effect on Tuesday, February 21.

Students who fail to turn in an assignment will be required to have a working lunch.  A communication system has been set up for teachers.  Students will receive a slip of red paper with, “ZAP,” on it for failing to turn in an assignment.  If they receive the slip of paper they must report to the ag. room during lunch the next day.  They may bring their lunch with them.  They are also responsible to bring all materials they would need to complete their assignment.

Late penalties will still apply for work that is turned in late.  However, some credit on assignments is still better than no credit.

This is not a punitive measure.  Once students complete their work, they are free to leave and resume open campus lunch.

Students who fail to appear in the ag. room during lunch will receive a 30 minute after school detention.

Teachers must enter, into a Google Document, any assignment a student fails to turn in or the student cannot receive a zero for the assignment.  This is to ensure accountability on all ends.

FAQ

What if I complete my assignment after I have been ZAPed?  Do I still have to go to the ag. room during lunch?

Yes.  In order to avoid confusion with communication, the student must still report to the ag. room and turn in the assignment to the proctor responsible.

What if a 30 minute lunch period is not enough time for me to complete an assignment?

Work done during the lunch period is what will be counted.  The student must turn in what they were working on at the end of the lunch period.

What if I have multiple missing assignments?

In the event that a student has several assignments that they are responsible for, they will work through what assignments they can complete and other assignments will be saved for the next day.
